Eight Aboriginal workers, including two local Ngukurr residents, are proud to be working on the construction of new homes in their community, under the HomeBuild NT program.
To date, work on two four-bedroom homes is underway in a new subdivision area in Ngukurr, as part of the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.
Feedback from the local community has helped to shape the design and construction of the homes through Local Decision Making.
Before beginning construction, Regional Project Manager Jason Ramsamy said that the department conducted two separate meetings with Traditional Owners and Ngukurr community members.
“As a result the two block homes had their floor plan designs amended following advice from local decision makers."
This included the addition of half-length verandas on the front and side of the homes, refrigerated air-conditioning penetrations and ceramic tiles throughout,” Jason said.
A contract for the construction of the homes was awarded to Scott Hammet Building, who is expected to complete the works in November 2019.
