Construction has begun on four new three bedroom homes in Gunbalanya, through the Northern Territory Government’s HomeBuild NT program.
HomeBuild NT is part of the Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes. remote housing program, which focuses on local decision making, place based plans and housing solutions.
For the family-oriented community of Gunbalanya, the community consultation which has been undertaken, informed where the homes would be built, the layout of the homes, the number of bedrooms in each and external paint colours.
Contractors SH Build has started work on the new homes in Gunbalanya, and work is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Work has also started on three new homes in Maningrida.
To achieve growth in Aboriginal employment in the delivery of works in remote communities, our contracts include a requirement that 35% of a contractors’ workforce labour is Aboriginal.
Construction is expected to start in a further 16 communities by the end of the year.
