Anthea was eager to move into her newly constructed home in Santa Teresa with her partner and their seven children earlier this month.
The home has been built under HomeBuild NT, as part of the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.
The home is raised off the ground to keep it cooler over summer and also features a shaded veranda.
Anthea said her children were enjoying their new home.
“This house has a lot of rooms, it’s much better than the old one."
"Everyone’s happier, they (children) get their own rooms."
“It feels good to move in, there’s plenty of space,” she said.
Under Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes., the Department of Local Government, Housing and Community Development has been working to identify priorities around the type of housing to be built, recognising the needs are unique in each community.
Through local decision making, communities can have input into decisions about the type of housing required, where housing is built and training and employment opportunities.
