Homes nearly complete in Alice Springs town camps

Town camps, including Charles Creek, Hoppy’s, Hidden Valley, Ilpeye Ilpeye, Warlpiri, Karnte, Larapinta Valley, Little Sisters, Mount Nancy, Morris Soak, and Trucking Yards are benefitting from new homes being delivered as part of a $40 million investment.

Thirty-nine of the 64 planned new homes are at various stages of construction. The first home was completed in September with more homes anticipated to be completed in the coming weeks. By the end of 2022 more than 35 of the 64 homes will be completed.

Two hundred and forty-two bedrooms are being constructed across the Town Camps, with housing composition determined through local decision making. A mix of 3, 4 and 5-bedroom, and duplex homes are being constructed. As part of the community consultation for these works, blockwork construction was the preferred home type for the Alice Springs town camps.

Progress has been rapid for these sites, with the first home delivered just 9 weeks from contractor commencement on site.

These works form part of the $2.1 billion remote housing program, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes. jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Northern Territory Government.

Across the 11 town camps, 64 new homes are under contract to be delivered. The construction contracts have been awarded to 5 Territory businesses (including 2 Aboriginal business enterprises):

  • Blueprint (NT)
  • Bullant Building
  • LA Build
  • Asbuild NT, and
  • Tangentyere Constructions.
