New Kintore homes provide space for families to grow

Three families in Kintore, about 500 kilometres west of Alice Springs (Mparntwe), received keys to their new homes last week.

The homes have been built as part of the Remote Housing Investment Package works, giving local families to live and grow together for decades to come.

A brand new five-bedroom home at Lot 96 was handed over to Lorna and Maureen Wheeler, who will be living at the property along with Lorna’s son Aaron Young, his partner Stephanie Malbunka, and their four children. Lorna and Maureen are both teachers at the local Walungurru School and work alongside Stephanie who is a teacher’s aide and is considering training as a teacher.

This new home replaces the old three-bedroom at Lot 96, where they have lived since 2011. The previous house was one of the oldest in Kintore and was in urgent need of replacement. As the family had grown, the house had become overcrowded, and the newly built five-bedroom home is suited to their needs.

A brand new four-bedroom home at Lot 95 was handed over to Judith Rowe and Rowan Baldock, who will live at the property with three other family members, including their two children and their Aunty. Judith and her family have said they are very excited to be moving into a new home.

A brand new replacement three-bedroom home at Lot 84 was handed over to Ashley Spencer and Jeannie Bruno. Ashley and his wife Jeannie have lived in the previous house at this location since 2011. The old house, which was demolished, had an unsuitable floorplan for family living, and the new house is far more suited to the needs of the family.
