Powering Ahead with Repairs to Residences in Elliott and Marlinja Community

Local NT company Power Projects NT employs locals to upgrade and renovate 61 residences in the Barkly region.

Local Aboriginal workers in the town of Elliott and nearby community of Marlinja (Newcastle Waters) have been invaluable in assisting local NT company Power Projects NT to upgrade and renovate 61 residences in the Barkly region.

Power Projects NT Aboriginal Liaison Officer Andrew Smith said the company was committed to utilising local Aboriginal workers and its Aboriginal workforce make up 62 per cent of workers employed by the company.

“We have 62 per cent employment for Aboriginal people and here in Elliott we employee 20 local people to undertake works on our behalf,” he said.

“If local people want to move from here and get an apprenticeship our company can also offer them jobs at our Katherine base.”

In addition to these renovations Power Projects NT recently constructed ten two bedroom Government Employee Housing homes in Elliott, which saw 20 local community members hired to undertake construction and cleaning throughout the build.
