Room to Breathe "improving lives" in Ali Curung

Mathew Walker is moving back into his home in Ali Curung, which has been upgraded under the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes. He says the upgrades will make a big difference to his family, while the overall work is improving the lives of people in his community.

Mathew works for the Barkly Regional Council and is proud of his Ali Curung community.

"My grandparents and my parents grew up here," he said.

For Mathew, it’s important his growing family is safe, healthy and happy in a place so special to him.

Last week, Mathew moved back into his home, which was upgraded under the Room to Breathe program as part of the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.

Among the works were the concrete path, enclosure of the back verandah, a new access gate and new hand basin in an external bathroom.

"I think it’s a great thing they did."

"It's a bit more cooler through the hot weather."

"Really grateful (for) all the works. It's hard to explain but it's really good. (It's) improving… people's homes, but people’s lives too," Mathew said.
