Room to Breathe in the seasonal changes

It only takes a moment for Edith Bronson to say what she loves about her home in Areyonga.

“My favourite part is the new verandah,” she says.

Edith and Jacob Carroll’s home was recently upgraded under the Room to Breathe program as part of the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.

Among the work, the verandah was enclosed.  An additional bedroom and second bathroom were also installed, along with a new kitchen.

“I have four children – the second one had no room, now we have one for her."

“The kitchen moved to the other side, and we have two bathrooms, that’s really good,” Edith said.

But for her, there’s nothing like the verandah.

“I like watching when the rain comes."

"First we had no verandah, and we watch outside….(now) I like watching from the verandah, that’s really nice. That’s why we like the verandah, when the rain comes."

“The family is really good, they’re really happy, they really like it."

“I’d like to say thank you to the housing mob, that’s really good, we are all happy, I really like it,” she said.
