The Gunbalanya community has recently celebrated the completion of five new three bedroom homes, with more than half of the construction undertaken by local Aboriginal workers through GT Builders.

More than $55 million worth of contracts have been awarded to Aboriginal Business Enterprises (ABEs) under the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package, Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes.

In addition to the $1.1 billion Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes. program, $426 million is being invested in land servicing and headworks to increase the serviced lots and related infrastructure.

Martin Dipper has been working for Tangentyere Constructions for more than 12 months, dedicating his time to the Room to Breathe program in his home community of Areyonga.

Traditional owner and Housing Reference Group chairperson Noel Hayes is impressed with the ongoing Room to Breathe upgrades in Ali Curung.  He says the contractors are doing a fantastic job.

Bawinanga Aboriginal Corporation has increased its staffing from eight to 21 employees. This includes up to 12 local Aboriginal employees, of which, five are full time. It credits this increase to the HomeBuild NT and Room to Breathe programs.

Peggy Gallagher is a respected Elder in the Areyonga community, and a member of the Areyonga Housing Reference Group.  She speaks about the positive impact the $1.1 billion remote housing investment package Our Community. Our Future. Our Homes is having on her community, and the further need in Areyonga in order to build a strong future for their children.

Building homes which fit the needs of the community was a key area for the discussion at the Maningrida Housing Reference Group (HRG) meeting last month. Members talked about how homes in a new sub-division in the community would be allocated.
